1,170+ new KNM practice questions in 8 topics
We've completely rebuilt our question database for Knowledge of Dutch Society (KNM). To design it, we used official sources and guidelines, including the official KNM exam objectives (eindtermen) for the inburgering exam and information from DUO, and the most reliable sources for KNM preparation. The result is one complete and reliable place to prepare for every topic of the KNM exam.
The questions are updated with the latest exam changes. Since 1 July 2025, the KNM exam has been based on new official exam objectives. The new exam asks more about facts and less about polite behaviour, and it adds new subjects such as the self-determination of women, the Holocaust and recognising antisemitism, and digital communication. Our questions follow these new objectives.
You can now practise 1,170+ questions in 8 categories:
- Manners, Values, and Norms (omgangsvormen, waarden en normen). How people in the Netherlands treat each other. Greetings, being on time, making appointments, neighbours, equal rights for men and women, and freedom of religion and speech.
- Health and Healthcare (gezondheid en gezondheidszorg). How healthcare works. The huisarts, the pharmacy, hospitals, emergencies (112), dentist and midwife, and your health insurance (zorgverzekering).
- Housing & Living (wonen en huisvesting). Finding and keeping a home. Renting or buying, social housing, rent benefit (huurtoeslag), contracts, utilities, waste and recycling, and rules for living with neighbours.
- History and Geography (geschiedenis en geografie). The Netherlands' past and its land. Important events and people, national holidays like King's Day and 4 and 5 May, the provinces, water and dikes, and the royal family.
- Education and Upbringing (onderwijs en opvoeding). School and raising children. The Dutch school system, compulsory education (leerplicht), contact with your child's school, childcare, and the rights of children.
- Work and Income (werk en inkomen). Finding and keeping a job. Applying for work, employment contracts, your rights at work, salary and taxes, unemployment benefits, and starting your own business.
- Institutions (instanties). Which organisation helps with what. The gemeente, UWV, Belastingdienst, DUO, IND, the police, and how to make an appointment or file a complaint.
- Government & Rule of Law (staatsinrichting en rechtsstaat). How the country is governed. The constitution, parliament and government, elections and voting, the courts, and your basic rights and duties.
What's new:
- Written at A2 level. Every question uses short sentences and everyday words, so you can focus on the facts instead of struggling with the language.
- Based on real-life situations. Questions are about things you'll actually deal with, like visiting the huisarts, renting a home, finding work, your child's school, or contacting the gemeente.
- Explanations for every answer. After you answer, you see why the correct answer is right, and also why each wrong answer is wrong. If you chose an answer you thought was correct, you can see exactly where the mistake is.
